Low Key Music offers the following services to meet your musical needs.
Instrument Sales: We have a huge selection of merchandise in our 3,600 square foot showroom, online sales of instruments and accessories, and even more options available for special order.
Instrument Rentals: We offer affordable rental programs of quality instruments to the local school districts. All our rental instruments are cleaned and tested before being rented to ensure a quality instrument for your money. We have a rent to own program on new and like new instruments as well as rare instrument rentals for adult musicians.
Music Lessons: We have 10 lesson studios available and are currently developing a program to allow you to decide when and on what day you would like to have your lesson with us.
Instrument Repair: We have a full band and orchestra repair department set up for all repairs. Our 3 technicians on staff not only repair instruments for a living, but also play professionally. Our repair shop also has a brand-new Ultrasonic Cleaning machine (largest in St. Louis Area) for all wind instruments.
We have qualified staff available for all your questions, so ask away. We strive to make sure you find everything you are looking for at our store.
Low Key Music is locally owned and operated by Jesse Frederickson, who was a professional naval musician and is currently active in the local music and theater communities of Saint Louis, and Ken Frederickson, a retired Deputy Fire Chief with over 40 years of service to the community.
Meet Our Team
Ken Frederickson, EMT-P, Dep Chief (ret)
Ken recently retired after 40 years with the Maryland Heights Fire District. Chief Frederickson worked his way up the ranks as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Acting Captain, Battalion Chief, and Deputy Chief. Chief Frederickson started his career in EMS/Fire Service in 1976 and became the 592nd Paramedic in the State of Missouri.
Frederickson retired from the Fire District in January 2019 and decided to head in a totally new direction as the Co-Owner of Low Key Music. As Fire Chief, Frederickson handled the EMS Budget and now expertly manages as Low Key Music’s Chief Financial Officer.

Co-Owner, Instrument Repair Technician
Jesse has been playing all wind instruments from sixth grade until now. He did the drum corps circuit for a few years during and after high school and then joined the Navy in 2004-2007 where ne was a Naval musician specializing in bass clarinet. While in the service he was also trained to be a repair technician for both brass and woodwinds.
After leaving the service Jesse still practiced instrument repair as a hobby until becoming a full-time employee at Band Instrument Service Company “Bisco” located in Saint Peters. He worked there as a brass technician from 2015 to 2017 when he left to pursue his dream to open his own music store and Low Key Music came into existence.
Jesse also plays in Manchester Community Band, Band Together, University City Band, and North Winds band as well. He makes it a point to play brass, reed, and double reed instruments in all these bands to stay well versed in all areas of expertise. Jesse volunteers for theatre pit orchestras and try to give as much of his free time as possible to help others in the music world.
Joe Paule is an active educator and freelance musician in the St. Louis area. He received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of MO-St. Louis and dis currently a Graduate Assistant at SIU-Edwardsville pursing a Master of Music in Jazz Trumpet Performance. Mr. Paule taught At Ritenour Middle School and was the Band Director at Soldan International Studies High School. He performs regularly with the St. Louis Philharmonic, North Winds Concert Band and the Sentimental Journey Dance Band.
Instrument Repair Technician
Jason has been a working musician for over 30 years, including studio, live performance and as an educator. He has appeared with countless artists around the St Louis area as a bass player and vocalist. Jason Has worked in the music retail business for over twenty years as a product specialist, and repair tech specializing in brass, and string repair.
Mr. Randle is a well-versed and passionate Saxophonist and Clarinetist who is always striving to become the best performer he can become. With thirteen years of clarinet experience, clarinet was his main instrument until he started college at Lindenwood University. He was introduced to saxophone in his first year of college and quickly fell in love with playing the instrument.
In his freshman to senior year at Clayton High School, he has participated in Missouri all suburban band, all state band Missouri, solo and ensemble and all state solo and ensemble from 2009-2013.
He is currently working towards his bachelor’s in music business with a minor of Jazz & Contemporary Music from Lindenwood University in Saint Charles.
With some of the organizations that Dominick is a part is Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Lambda Chi, NAFME (National Association For Music Education), JEN (Jazz Educators Network) and MBA (Music Business Association)
Luke is very glad to be involved in the local music community through his position with Low Key Music. He has been a woodwind instrumentalist since high school and plays in pit orchestras for musicals whenever he can. Some of the show books he has played include Fiddler on the Roof, Shrek The Musical, and The Company. Luke plays an assortment of woodwinds; Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Soprano Sax, Tenor Sax, Alto Sax, flute, piccolo, Alto Flute, Eb clarinet. He is a member of several community bands throughout the St. Louis area. Besides participating in the Compton Heights Concert Band, he recently joined Northwinds Concert Band. We are very lucky to have a talented young man to be a part of Low Key Music.
David Kemp brings much diverse experience to the team at Low Key Music. During his high school years David studied piano and clarinet earning many All-District Honors on both instruments. David was also drum major of his high school marching band and that experience solidified David’s drive to pursue a career within the music industry. David earned a music scholarship to attend Lindenwood University during his senior year of high school.
David graduated from Lindenwood University in 2005 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education and a Bachelor’s in Music Performance. During college David performed in the Lindenwood University Jazz Ensemble, Lindenwood Symphonic Band, Lindenwood Marching Band, various Lindenwood University Musical Productions, and acted as a woodwind tech for many St. Louis area school districts during their marching band seasons.
After graduating college David worked for 12 years as a music educator in various districts throughout the state of Missouri. David has served in teaching posts acting as a choral director, band director, drumline instructor, elementary music educator, and general music educator. David also brings 6 years of service as a military musician to Low Key Music. Since 2013 David has been a member of a reserve component Army Band. As a multi-instrumentalist David is utilized as a clarinet player in the concert band and as a lead guitarist in a popular music group.
